When we talk about steals in the draft, we hear the traditional names such as Mike Trout, Jacob DeGrom, and even Paul Goldschmidt. But Fletcher is a different breed. Everyone knows if he was in the 2020 MLB Draft, hands down he would be a top ten pick. But in 2019 he decided to re-classify as a senior, while it only being his third year of high school. Picked in the second round, Fletcher has RAW tools. Pure athleticism that WILL translate to power and an already strong arm, he has all the looks to be a name to remember in the Cardinals system. I’d be lying if I said I know what he will turn out to be, but Wowza if he can grow as a hitter and learn the outfield better, we are talking about the future centerfielder for the Saint Louis Cardinals.
The former-Vanderbilt commit, happily signed with the Cardinals and for all we know, that might have been the best decision for him, especially with COVID-19 taking senior seasons from many players. His power is something to watch, with it being hard to tell what an eighteen-year-old could produce in his future, I’ll go out on a limb and say he has 30-30 potential. He has raw power, that on a 20-80 scale could reach 55, maybe even 60. Just for reference, Dylan Carlson sits at 60. From the video I was able to watch, the best way to comp his swing, would be Ronald Acuna’s. Something abt his load then leg kick, screams Acuna, and well maybe the swagger as well. Trejyn’s arm, though, is probably his best tool, maybe along with his speed. Both are well above average and could both grow as well. Defensively, he is solid, but being in the Cardinals organization and minor league baseball, time will change that. Hell, look what they did to Bader.
At the end of the day, you won't see many people placing Fletcher this high, mainly because of his age and not much he has proven in the organization, but off of pure talent and potential, he is top 5. Fletcher has the potential to be so fun and a really great player, he’ll have to work on it though. My best comp for Fletcher has to be Starling Marte. Something about Fletcher’s power and speed combo relates to Marte, and while I thought maybe about a Randal Grichuk comp, I believe Fletcher is more athletic. I don't expect him to play on the taxi-squad for the 2020 season, but I’m very excited to see what he can do in 2021.
